How GastroAID Everyday targets foregut health
Lecithin: Lecithin is a phospholipid that helps maintain the integrity of the stomach lining cells, which results in supporting a healthy stomach lining for your horse.
Psyllium Husk: Psyllium husk forms a protective gel in the stomach. When combined with the lecithin, it helps to form a barrier over the stomach lining to help protect it from acid burn whilst also strengthening the integrity of the lining.
Calcareous Marine Algae: Calcareous marine algae are porous honeycomb structures rich in calcium, which reduces the acidity of gastric acid by creating a buffer. By reducing acidity, it minimises the risk of stomach lining damage.
How GastroAID Everyday targets hindgut health
Prebiotics: In GastroAID Everyday, we use a prebiotic called Yang®. It’s a blend of various strains of inactivated yeasts, including Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yang® is designed to help eliminate harmful bacteria from the digestive tract by working together with specific yeasts. Additionally, Yang® helps stimulate a healthy immune system.
Probiotics: We use two strain-specific LIVE yeast probiotics in GastroAID Everyday. These probiotics are Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain l-1077 and Saccharomyces boulardii strain l-1079. You might wonder what makes this so special. Firstly, these probiotics are coated in a special technology that keeps them ALIVE, all the way till they reach your horse’s hindgut! Secondly, we actually tell you what yeast and strain we use because we want you to know what you are feeding your horse. Furthermore, research confirms their effectiveness in stabilising hindgut pH levels, increasing the level of good bacteria in the hindgut, and helping reduce watery diarrhoea.
Why the following ingredients aren’t included in GastroAID Everyday:
Two buffers: GastroAID Everyday is designed to offer stomach health benefits to the general horse population. These are the horses that don’t have serious stomach conditions like stomach ulcers. Only serious conditions like ulcers benefit strongly from multiple buffering ingredients. If you find your horse may be at risk of ulcers, then reach for GastroAID Recovery which has a total of 3 buffering ingredients in its unique ‘alkaline slime’ formulation.
Amino acids: We focus heavily on educating everyday horse owners on how to feed their horses a nutritious and balanced diet. If your horse is already on a balanced diet that you adapt to the horse’s workload, you shouldn’t need to feed extra amino acids unless your horse has a heavy workload. If your horse has a heavy workload, this is a risk factor for stomach ulcers. Look at using our specific ulcer support supplement, GastroAID Recovery instead.
Postbiotics: Because we already use live probiotic strains scientifically proven to reach the horse’s hindgut while remaining alive, there is no need for a postbiotic. Postbiotics are the metabolites that are created from fermenting bacteria living in the hindgut and are no longer alive.
Mycotoxin binder: Research indicates that one of the yeast components already found in GastroAID Everyday, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, has the ability to bind to certain common mycotoxins like aflatoxins, fumonisin, and zearalenone that horses may experience. We chose not to include an additional mycotoxin binder in our formula to reserve space for active ingredients crucial for sustaining the overall health and function of the digestive tract, all while keeping the product affordable.
