FAQs for GastroAID Recovery and Racehorses

EGUS affects about 90-100% of the racehorse population so, what can you do to help your horse’s gut health to make sure they maintain their winning edge on the track?

Racehorses train in high-pressure environments making them VERY susceptible to EGUS. Many trainers have reported early results using GastroAID Recovery such as improvements in coming up from behind, licking the bin out, even temperaments, and firmer manure consistency, but the real benefit has been the notable improvement in performance.

GastroAID Recovery is the number 1, vet-recommended supplement used by hundreds of trainers. That is because GastroAID Recovery is the only product on the Australian market that contains pectin, lecithin market that contains pectin, lecithin and a combination of buffers to coat the squamous region and supplement the glandular region whilst being SCIENTIFICALLY backed by research.

GastroAID Recovery  is unique as the combination of pectin, lecithin and buffers form an “alkaline slime” coating over the stomach wall to help to protect it from acid burn in the squamous region when they’re working. The high-intensity lifestyle of racehorses makes them at a high risk of also developing lesions in the glandular region of their stomach due to their natural muco-bicarbonate layer breaking down. The “alkaline slime” blend not only supports against acid splash but it supplements that natural muco-bicarbonate defence layer which no other supplement can do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I feed GastroAID Recovery at the same time as omeprazole?

Yes, it can be fed in conjunction with omeprazole and all other veterinary treatments to help reduce the prevalence of EGUS. It is important to first consult with your veterinarian if you suspect your horse might be suffering from EGUS.

Is there scientific evidence to support GastroAID Recovery?

A/Prof Dr Ben Sykes found, in his independent research, that treated horses that were supplemented with the key ingredients in GastroAID Recovery: pectin-lecithin complex, live yeast (S.cerevisiae strain I-1077) and magnesium hydroxide, had a positive effect on reducing the development, or exacerbation, of EGUS . The core constituents of GastroAID Recovery were also demonstrated to reduce the rate of occurrence of faecal acidosis in a high-risk population of Thoroughbred racehorses.

How does GastroAID Recovery work?

  1. Moderates Gut Transit Time: Wholegrain oat flour delays stomach emptying to maintain a healthy rate of food passage through the digestive system, allowing for optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients.
  2. Buffers Gastric Acid: Antacids stabilise (buffer) stomach pH to help reduce irritation to the stomach lining.
  3. Coats Stomach Lining: Pectin forms a gel-like layer over the stomach to help to protect the lining from the corrosive effects of gastric acid.
  4. Strengthens Stomach Lining: Lecithin is a phospholipid that improves the integrity of the epithelial cells to help maintain a healthy stomach lining.
  5. Promotes Beneficial Microbes: Levucell SC® live yeast probiotic reduces lactic acid in the hindgut (stabilises pH) and stimulates the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria for optimal feed conversion efficiency.
